 The 1902 New Straitsville Elections

The New Straitsville Record

NO. 21 NEW STRAITSVILLE, O. FRIDAY, APRIL 11, 1902 VOL. 1

ELECTION RESULTS.

Election day passed off very quietly her Monday, nothing occuring to mar the quietness of the day. A very light vote was cast owing to the disagreeable and threatening condition of the weather; even the ardor and enthusiasm of the women voters was dampened and the number out was not up to expectations. The result is almost unnanimous Republican victory, more Republicans being elected to office than has been at any election in Coal Township for several years.

The result of the election for members of the board of education is discouraging for women sufferagists in this town; when we take into consideration the high standing and excellent qualifications of the ladies who were running this year, and then compare the result of the ballot one may be led to believe that it will be a difficult matter to secure the election of any woman in our town to that position.

While saying nothing disparaging of the candidates who were defeated, yet the offices elected are men or women ??????? no doubt prove so before their term expires.

Below we publish the results.
