Ohio University Partners with LCBD
Students from Ohio University spent a week in the Little Cities region this summer as part of an Appalachian Experience class taught by Council Member Professor Frans Doppen. Students from the class conducted various community service and research projects as part of their work, including painting buildings in Shawnee. A student project which will continue beyond the class has been the start of a fund raising drive to place an Ohio historic marker in the town of Rendville. A fund for the marker has been established at the LCBD Council to accept the funds raised by the students and contributions from the general public are being accepted.
In August, the Grants & Research office at Ohio University partnered with Sunday Creek Associates and the LCBD Council to request a planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities that will plan interpretation of the region via the development of downloadable audio pods that tell the story at various visitable sites in the microregion. Word on grant awards will not be received from NEH until early 2009.
