Teachers from Trimble Local and Southern Local Schools will gather on April 7 for a tour of the outdoors in the Little Cities that will take them to such destinations as Wildcat Hollow for s fish species count and Essex Doser for a presentation on Acid Mine Draingage clean up.  Teachers will then develop lessons that involve hands-on environmental learning in the place where their students live that meet state academic content standards.  Member organizations in the Collaborative will work with the teachers to implement the hands-on activities in their plans.
Words from the Woods will be distributed at locations frequented by residents and visitors to the microregion.  It will contain articles that pertain to outdoors activities such as hunting and hiking and restoration projects such as stream restoration and reforestation.
The Collaborative is an outgrowth of the Little Cities of the Forest Project and its founding member organizations are Sunday Creek Associates (Little Cities of Black Diamonds), Wayne National Forest, Sunday Creek Watershed Group, Monday Creek Restoration Project and the North Country National Scenic Trail.  Dana White serves as the coordinator of the Collaborative and can be reached at 740-569-4928.
