Historic Marker Approved; Another Launched

The Ohio Historical Society has notified the New Straitsville History Group that their historic marker for Robinson’s Cave has been approved. Though the History Group has not reached their full goal for funding the marker, they have decided to use money from their general funds to move forward with the fabrication of the marker. The marker is expected to be ready for installation near the entrance of the cave by late spring.
New Straitsville may not be the only Little Cities community with a new Ohio Historic marker if a group of students from Ohio University are successful in their effort to raise money for marker depicting the nationally significant history of Rendville miners and citizens in breaking the color barrier for African Americans in the late 1800’s and 1900’s. Persons interested in joining the students, who have raised $118.31 to date, should contact their professor Frans Doppen at doppen@ohio.edu or the Little Cities Council office.
