Devil’s Oven Wins Award at Santa Cruz Film Festival

The documentary Devil’s Oven: The Fire in the Heart of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds filmed in our region by producer Valda Lewis and narrated by Bob Singleton, has been accepted at several film festivals for 2008.  The Earth Vision 10th Annual International Environmental Film Festival in Santa Cruz, California, March 3rd to 8th, has honored the documentary with its Katharine Knight Award, a recognition named for one of the two founders of the festival. The documentary will be shown at three different locations around Santa Cruz during the Festival and also on Earth Day in April.  It will also be shown on Santa Cruz Community Television potentially reaching 65,000 subscribers.
   The documentary was screened at the Cleveland International Film Festival, on March 11 to a sold out theater, with many natives of the region living in Cleveland attending after reading about the documentary in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  Lewis  has also applied for entrance in many other film festivals throughout this year including The Akron Film Festival, April 3rd to 6th; The Oxford International Film Festival, April 10th to 12th; The Columbus Film Festival, April 17th to 19th; and the Athens Film Festival, April 25th to May 1.   The documentary is available in DVD format and on sale at Rocky Boots in Nelsonville, the Wayne National Forest Headquarters on Route 33, The Community Exchange Gift Shop, Little Cities Saturdays, and the LCBD Office in Shawnee, and the Sherman House in Lancaster.
