Women’s Registry Deadline Extended to January 2012

.The Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council has announced the extension of the deadline for submissions to its “Women of the Little Cities Registry” to January 30, 2012

Once published, the registry will include profiles of inspiring women, living and deceased, from the Little Cities microregion which is located at the corners of Perry, Hocking, Athens and Morgan Counties of Ohio, and was once known as the thriving Hocking Valley Coal Region. Collectively, the women’s stories will provide a glimpse of the lives of women in this region, past and present. The Council recognized eight inspiring women as part of its Women of the Little Cities theme celebrated in the fall of 2010 and spring of 2011. This recognition spurred interest in collecting additional individual stories and creating a publication for such purposes. Nominations are sought for women who have made a significant contribution in the Little Cities microregion, and those who grew up here but excelled or made a contribution elsewhere. Examples of attributes include: (a) dedication to a community, (b) individual accomplishments, and (c) serving as a role model for others. In addition to public leaders and businesswomen, unsung heroines such as midwives, volunteers, teachers and nurturers are welcomed as nominees. These names and a short description of their contributions will be published in the registry to be released later in 2012.

Application forms can be picked up at libraries in Athens, Hocking, Morgan and Perry Counties, or downloaded from www.littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org. Applications can be mailed to the Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council, P. O. Box 128, Shawnee, Ohio 43782, or sent via email to lcbd@ohiohills.com, or dropped off at the Council office at 127 West Main Street, Shawnee where applications are also available.
