ATHENS, OH, April 26th , 2010---The boom era architecture of the Hocking Valley Coal Fields will be the topic of a Saturday morning guided tour on May 8. The four and half hour tour will depart from the Eclipse Company Town near Athens at 9AM and include stops in Nelsonville, Haydenville, New Straitsville, Shawnee and Rendville. The tour will be guided by Hocking College’s Associate Dean of the School of Natural Resources Ken Bowald. Bowald is a member on National Association of Interpreters and has worked extensively with his students in historical interpretation projects featuring various heritage assets in southeastern Ohio. The tour includes morning coffee and pastries, van transportation, and lunch at the Appalachian Spring Festival upon return to Eclipse between 1 and 1:30. Registration cost is $35 for the general public, and $25 for Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council members, Ohio University and Hocking College students.
